Haven’t been around much but…

November 2, 2009 Rachel Leave a comment

I’ve been busy. There’s heaps going on in my life at the moment and I’m finding it hard to catch my breath but things are starting to settle and fingers crossed all will fall into place and get back to normal. Well as normal as we get around here anyway. LOL

My alter ego Rhian Cahill has been busy writing and has quiet a few things going on right now. Plus in the last week some great reviews have come in for Singapore Fling and One Night In Bangkok. The links to all the reviews are HERE! Plus Rhian has done a couple of interview, the links to those can be found HERE!

I’m taking part in Nano again. The first day sucked on the word count but I’ve got my mother visiting so time is limited. Hopefully I’ll catch up and leap ahead at some point.

Thought I’d share a pic with you of a nasty storm that blew in over the ocean the other day. I have to say I really love the tropical storms we get up here in Singapore. They’re always so dramatic.

There’s a Heat Wave coming!!

International-Heat-Wave-banner

Woot! The gals at International Heat have started their very own Heat Wave. That’s right, a group dedicated to all things steamy in the world of romance. And to kick things off with a bang they’re running a month long contest fest.

The ladies of International Heat have created a unique Yahoo group for erotic romance fans. Readers will be eligible for ‘members only’ contests, never-before-seen deleted scenes, cover art madness, and lots of sneak peeks of the ‘coming soon’ lists of Viv Arend, Rhian Cahill, Mari Carr, Lexxie Couper, Jess Dee, Lila Dubois, Jambrea Jo Jones, Sherry Ricardo, Jayne Rylon, T, and Valerie Tibbs.

Over the month of October the members of International Heat have lined up some great contests for you. There is a major contest for every week, plus we’ll also be doing some random drop-in contests, so keep your eye open for those throughout the month as well.

The fine print:

Each week there will be a new MAJOR prize package available to win. Ebooks, banners, gift certificates, book covers. Each prize package will show you what is in that prize. What you see is what you get, so if you already own some of the books in the prize,  you’ll just have to enjoy the ones you don’t have yet. Of course if the prize is a choice of backlist, you’ll get to choose!

MINI contests will be announced throughout the week, and you’ll usually have a day to enter to win. Again, prizes as stated in the announcements.

There’s also a GRAND PRIZE--and WOW, it’s pretty awesome!–that will be drawn on November 1st during our  Heat Wave Beach Party.

Each contest will explain what you have to do to enter.

Hope you enjoy getting to know the members of International Heat during this month and have fun.

So what are you waiting for? Click the Heat Wave Reader button at the top of this post or the snazzy one in the sidebar on the right. Or if you’re really lazy you could just go HERE to join.

Life kicks my butt!

September 22, 2009 Rachel Leave a comment

Honestly I’m totally over having so much to do. I cannot catch my breath. It’s all good stuff but man I gotta say I need a break! Just a little time to get more than half a job done before I need to more onto the next one. The writing is going well. Managed to finish the first draft of bk1 in the shifter series that will be pub’d under Rhian Cahill and so far the CP’s have liked it without pointing out any major holes that need filling. Should have that off to an editor by the end of the week. I started a new short that is already a third done, go me!, and I’m hoping to sub that by the end of next month. Should be starting back on the romantic suspense series in the next month or so too. I’m putting together a schedule and locking the door to my office so I stick to it. (the locked door will keep the Tribe out. *grin*)

Other than that, the Tribe is taking up lots of time with the start of the new school year for the Princesses, The Kid entering wake boarding contests and Son#1 and Lady-in-waiting studying hard for their university degrees. Hubby has managed to travel less in the last month as his parents have been here visiting, they leave tonight. We’re doing the normal round up of things getting ready for Christmas and all that involves. So you see, busy, busy, busy.

Things are changing.

June 20, 2009 RC Leave a comment

You’ll notice a few changes over the next few weeks. I’ll be blogging more often and running a new Spotlight Sunday post every week. There’s things in my writing life that will be changing too but more on that later. For now let’s just say I’m rearranging some things to give me more time to write under both my names. LOL That always makes me laugh. Anyway, pop back on Sunday to see who my first spotlight is on. I will say this person writes smokin’ hot romance that will singe your eyeballs.

The end is near.

June 9, 2009 RC Leave a comment

I’m leaving for the airport soon. The trip back to Singapore will take about two days so I’ll be unreachable but don’t worry, the first thing I’ll be dong is checking in with ALL my online buddies! I’ve had a wonderful time, met some great people (old friends and new), discovered that the writing community is a marvelous place to be and learned so much that I’m going to able to apply to my writing process and goals. Can’t wait to get home and get started. Of course there’s all the Tribe who I’ve missed far more than I should. I plan on giving them all a big squeeze when I see them in TWO DAYS.

Lazy afternoon

April 10, 2009 Rachel Leave a comment

Okay so it’s still morning and my life is anything but lazy at the moment but I’m sitting by the pool with my netbook (here after known as Mini-stud) writing and watching the Tribe swim and soak up the sun. Hubby’s across the table working (when isn’t he?) and Son#1 and Lady-in-waiting are upstairs studying. It’s a glorious sunny and hot day and I’ve go heaps to do before I go to the US in ten days time but I’ve decided I’m in need of some TLC so I’m ‘relaxing’ by the pool.

One Night In Bangkok releases on the 11th of April and for more details go here. I’m excited about my first release and totally love the cover the artist came up with.

Well back to writing my next hot tale for the Passport To Passion Collection.

Contract glory!

February 25, 2009 Rachel Leave a comment

Wooohooooooo……

I sold my short story One Night In Bangkok to Noble Romance Publishing. I’m so jazzed! This of course will be under Rhian Cahill but hell that’s me so I’m bragging here too. LOL

I’ve already signed and sent the contract but know nothing else yet. This news is less than 12 hours old so I think I’m at that point in the roller coaster where you just leave the top of that first big drop. Jeez, hope I don’t lose my lunch.

A taste of Jolene’s hero.

February 24, 2009 Rachel 1 comment

Last week I promised I’d blog a bit of Troy, Jolene’s hero. It’s unedited and definitely not polished but it should give you a feel for the man. This is the section straight after what I blogged last week. Enjoy

Troy found her exactly where he thought she’d be. Every year she came and sat in the freezing winter morning. Her emotions clearly stamped on her face. The raw pain etched across Jolene’s pretty features always dragged at his gut. Over the last ten years they’d built a solid friendship but she still wouldn’t include anyone in this pilgrimage.

Sitting on the damp grass in her threadbare coat, she was the image of absolute misery. It was the one time of the year where she let what happened have free rein, every other day she kept it carefully locked away. But today, the anniversary of the violent act that took the lives of her children and parents, she let it out.

Tears streamed down her cheeks unnoticed, dripping onto the ground with a steady plop. There was nothing but the one headstone to mark the grave, no flowers ever placed on it. Jolene wouldn’t allow beauty to mask the ugliness. Just like she’d chosen the dark under the tree for them to rest in.

He didn’t begin to understand the logic behind the decisions, but then how could there be any logic in such an emotional situation? Like he did on this day every year, he’d give her time. Then he’d do what he always had, he’d go and help her pick up the pieces of her sanity so she could get through the rest of the day.

And the rest of her life.

Fishing in his pocket, he pulled out a packet of gum. Without taking his eyes from Jolene he popped a piece into his mouth. His jaw clamped down hard as she traced the words on the headstone. The shake in her fingers could be from the cold or from the raw ache he knew was tearing her up inside. Probably both.

That damn coat didn’t offer any protection from the wind but she refused to wear anything else. He’d bought her a new coat last year, managed to get her to accept it and she did wear it. But never here. Here she wore the same coat she’d worn for the last ten years. The same clothes.

He’d asked her about it once, why she wore the same thing as the day they buried her family. The stunned look on her face had said it all. She’d sworn he was mistaken. Why would she wear the same outfit? She didn’t even really remember the day never mind what she’d had on. Troy believed her. He remembered all too clearly how she’d been that day.

How she was now.

The shriek of the wind as it cut across the cemetery forced him to his feet. Enough was enough. He wouldn’t sit here and watch her freeze to death. Her frozen heart caused him plenty of grief; he wouldn’t have the rest of her go that way. Time to make a move and take her home.

He approached with as much noise as he could make but she was so caught up in the grief and the dark corner of her mind where she kept her memories she wouldn’t even hear a herd of cows. Still… he wouldn’t risk startling her. The morning chill sank further into his bones and he shivered. It had nothing to do with where he was and his dislike of what it meant to her.
