I’m over it completely. I know I should be excited about being home near family and friends again but we’ve still got weeks until our furniture arrives and there’s only so long 7 people can live out of suitcases before someone dies a slow painful death. Anyone want a slightly damaged 13yo? No? Bugger!
Anyway, Christmas and New Year were great and they blended in nicely with the chaos that is my world right now. BUT, the highlight of the last month for me was the Sydney Writers Lunch in mid December. You can check out the post on the Romance Writers of Australia blog HERE!
Everyone plans things. I’m the type to have a rough idea of what I want to do and where I want to go. I’ve always been a go with the flow type person which works well in most things but I need to have at least a vague idea of where I’m going with my writing career. My plans are to establish myself as an erotic romance writer AND a romance/suspense/contemporary/whatever the hell else I come up with write. These two different writers will be under two different names mainly to stop someone who isn’t interested in reading the explicit sex I write in my erotic romance stories from getting one by mistake. I’ve also planned where I want to see my stories published and this week I took a step closer to my goal.
Ellora’s Cave offered a contract for Coyote Home. It’s the first in a series of four books set in the paranormal world of coyote shifters and of course they are erotic romance so will be published under Rhian Cahill. I really want to dance around and yell but I’m waylaid by the flu and all the damn packing boxes littering the house right now. *sigh* I also really want to get the second book sent in to my editor and finish up working on the 3rd and 4th books. All in good time though, there’s other things that must be done first. Like…
The big move. Yep, next week it all happens. Monday the movers arrive and it’ll take them three days to pack all our stuff plus we’ll be forced to move to a hotel for our final nights in Singapore so life will be lived out of a suitcase as of Monday. We won’t be moving into our house until the first week of February next year. In the mean time we’ll be living with the in-laws and spending every spare minute sorting out cars, banks, electricity, phone, food, school, release of storage stuff, getting our cats from quarantine….. I’m exhausted already and I’m hoping to have edits to deal with as well. *grin* I’m dreading and looking forward to the next two months at the same time. Lets hope I survive.
I’m very excited to be able to tell everyone why I’ve been so quiet and haven’t gotten to do as much in the way of writing as I’d like. We’re moving back to Sydney! The biggest bonus, other than being close to family and moving back into our house, is that I’m finally going to be closer to other authors!!! Yay! I’m planning lots of things for the new year. I know I shouldn’t be planning that quite yet but I can’t help it. I’ve been isolated so long with the lack of author connection here in Singapore that I’m beside myself with excitement about all that I’ll be able to take part in. I’m also thrilled to not have to go back to work outside the home so I’ll be able to continue to concentrate on writing. Squeeeeee……..
Edited to add we leave Singapore on the 17th of December.
I’ve been busy. There’s heaps going on in my life at the moment and I’m finding it hard to catch my breath but things are starting to settle and fingers crossed all will fall into place and get back to normal. Well as normal as we get around here anyway. LOL
My alter ego Rhian Cahill has been busy writing and has quiet a few things going on right now. Plus in the last week some great reviews have come in for Singapore Fling and One Night In Bangkok. The links to all the reviews are HERE! Plus Rhian has done a couple of interview, the links to those can be found HERE!
I’m taking part in Nano again. The first day sucked on the word count but I’ve got my mother visiting so time is limited. Hopefully I’ll catch up and leap ahead at some point.
Thought I’d share a pic with you of a nasty storm that blew in over the ocean the other day. I have to say I really love the tropical storms we get up here in Singapore. They’re always so dramatic.
Honestly I’m totally over having so much to do. I cannot catch my breath. It’s all good stuff but man I gotta say I need a break! Just a little time to get more than half a job done before I need to more onto the next one. The writing is going well. Managed to finish the first draft of bk1 in the shifter series that will be pub’d under Rhian Cahill and so far the CP’s have liked it without pointing out any major holes that need filling. Should have that off to an editor by the end of the week. I started a new short that is already a third done, go me!, and I’m hoping to sub that by the end of next month. Should be starting back on the romantic suspense series in the next month or so too. I’m putting together a schedule and locking the door to my office so I stick to it. (the locked door will keep the Tribe out. *grin*)
Other than that, the Tribe is taking up lots of time with the start of the new school year for the Princesses, The Kid entering wake boarding contests and Son#1 and Lady-in-waiting studying hard for their university degrees. Hubby has managed to travel less in the last month as his parents have been here visiting, they leave tonight. We’re doing the normal round up of things getting ready for Christmas and all that involves. So you see, busy, busy, busy.
You’ll notice a few changes over the next few weeks. I’ll be blogging more often and running a new Spotlight Sunday post every week. There’s things in my writing life that will be changing too but more on that later. For now let’s just say I’m rearranging some things to give me more time to write under both my names. LOL That always makes me laugh. Anyway, pop back on Sunday to see who my first spotlight is on. I will say this person writes smokin’ hot romance that will singe your eyeballs.
I’m leaving for the airport soon. The trip back to Singapore will take about two days so I’ll be unreachable but don’t worry, the first thing I’ll be dong is checking in with ALL my online buddies! I’ve had a wonderful time, met some great people (old friends and new), discovered that the writing community is a marvelous place to be and learned so much that I’m going to able to apply to my writing process and goals. Can’t wait to get home and get started. Of course there’s all the Tribe who I’ve missed far more than I should. I plan on giving them all a big squeeze when I see them in TWO DAYS.
